If you're lucky, there might be a used sporting goods shop near you that'll buy used bikes. Many modern bike shops don't bother buying and selling used bikes anymore. Otherwise, one of the quickest ways to turn your used bike into cash is to find a local pawnshop. It is the old-fashioned way to turn most items into quick cash. If you're lucky, you may have a shop nearby that specializes in buying, selling, and consigning used sporting equipment.

The advantage here is the convenience of selling locally and completing a transaction the same day you walk in. The major concern, however, is getting maximum value for your bike. Many shops may lack the expertise to understand what your bike is worth, or their business model makes them unable or unwilling to give you the amount you want, especially for high-end bikes.

When selling online, be wary of scammers and bogus offers. Make sure transactions are safe and secure. Many police stations now offer special areas for such transactions to occur. This is also why I prefer Facebook Marketplace to Craigslist because you can scope the profiles of prospective buyers to see if they're legit.

Your ad also has to fight for attention, as it continuously gets bumped down by newer ads. If someone isn't searching for exactly what you're selling, they may never see it. If you're up for the work and personal interaction it takes, then it may be the way to go.

The Internet is rife with bike nerds and online forums are where they tend to gather. There are forums dedicated to every cycling discipline imaginable, from specific ideologies to brands to interests. Many cycling sites have specific buy and sell forums, which are slightly more educated versions of your local online marketplace. Still, visibility can be hit-or-miss depending on the site or bike, and you may run into low-ballers, potential scammers, or lack of views.

Remember, if your bike doesn't sell locally, you'll have to pack and ship your bike. This costs money (sometimes a lot!), and if you don't have the materials or experience, it can be difficult. Selling your used bike on a forum can be a bit of extra work, but it can help you find a specific type of buyer that you might not be able to find locally.

You'll need to develop a reputation through positive feedback. Often, buyers prefer trusted sellers with good ratings. This isn't to say that you can't sell with poor or few ratings, but if you don't sell often or you're selling for the first time, there's a chance that you could be missing out on some buyers willing to spend a little more for confidence and security.

We have a proven, efficient system to buy bikes from cyclists like you. Whether you want the cash or you're ready to trade-in for your next bike, our goal at The Pro's Closet is to provide you with exceptional customer service and a trouble-free way to sell your bike.

Fill out the submission form to tell us about the bike you have to sell. You will need to know the make, model, and year of your bike. This information must be accurate for our team of experts to give an accurate quote for your bike's value. If you are unsure of any of these details, please contact our Ride Guides for assistance.

So, how do you avoid these cons of selling online? Well, with The Pro's Closet, you deal directly with us. You have the option for either cash or store credit, and receiving payment is fast and easy via PayPal. Worried abou those high shipping rates? We have you covered, shipping is free for all bikes we purchase! Best of all, our team is available every day of the week to answer any questions you may have!

DO give your bike a tune-up. Making sure your bike is ready to ride will give buyers the confidence that they won't have to do any serious maintenance once they purchase from you. Apply these simple principals the next time you want to sell your bike and once the dust settles, you will notice your wallet will be a little fatter.

Featured ads are highlighted and appear at the top of the category search results. They stand out from other listings. On average people who upgrade their ads to featured sell their items 50% faster than a normal listing.

Great question! The Tri Swap is conveniently timed near the end of the triathlon season, making it a great time to unload some of the gear you no longer need, and invest that money into some new gear that you really want. We've moved The Swap up 1 month from prior years, so if you are looking to purchase gear there are still plenty of races later in the season to put your new equipment to good use at. We take care of all the marketing, staffing, merchandising, and payment handling. Additionally, we take almost all forms of payment, so potential buyers can use their credit cards which increases the likelihood that your high-end race wheels, triathlon bicycle, mountain bike, and/or other items will sell.

We take any sporting equipment that could be used for mountain, road, gravel, or triathlon racing and training. The equipment needs to be in good condition- this is not a junk sale. Road bikes, triathlon bikes, mountain bikes, bike parts/accessories, wetsuits, race wheels, and tires are all great items to sell at the swap. A few important details are listed below:

Option 1: 20% commission on all gear sold. This is taken off the final selling price, not including sales tax. This commission covers all handling of your gear, storing, merchandising, selling, and credit card processing fees.

You'll find a lot of great things to kickstart your next triathlon training and racing season! In addition to all the great items at the swap, Tri Town will be hosting a store wide sale on most in-stock items. After you've browsed the items on the lot, be sure to check out what is available in the store.

I first started the website Scientific Triathlon in autumn 2015 as a passion project to share my learnings with a larger triathlon audience. Later on, in early 2017 I started the podcast That Triathlon Show.

Organizers of an annual Beaches three-race sprint triathlon series have decided to keep the May, June and July races at Mickler's Landing in Ponte Vedra Beach this year, cancelling plans to possibly move one or two of them to Jacksonville Beach."We decided that consistency was the best thing to go for," said Kathy Wallis, executive director of the Beaches Fine Arts Series, a nonprofit organization that produces the triathlons to raise money for musical concerts and children's educational events. The Fine Arts Series approached the Jacksonville Beach City Council last month about holding perhaps two of the races in that city, beginning and ending them at the SeaWalk Pavilion. But the council, at the request of the city's police chief, voted to allow only one race to see if it posed any safety issues. The races, which have been in various locations throughout the Beaches for 23 years, are capped at 500 triathletes per race. But the Fine Arts Series wants to expand the events, which have quarter-mile ocean swims followed by 13-mile bike rides and 3.1-mile runs, to 600 participants. This year, a new bike course will take cyclists west from Mickler's Landing over Palm Valley Road into Nocatee and back. That will spread participants out, allowing more to participate, Wallis said.In the past, cyclists and runners both used portions of Ponte Vedra Boulevard, but the new course will keep only runners on that road. The plan has been approved by the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, Wallis said."Mickler's is a great place for us, and we work really well with the people there. We were never dissatisfied, and with the new bike route, we are very excited," she said. This year, the series also has a new title sponsor, Montoya Brower and Associates, an employee benefits and financial planning firm based in Ponte Vedra Beach. The first race of the Montoya Brower Beaches Fine Arts Sprint Triathlon Series will be Saturday, May 16, followed by races on June 13 and July 11.The firm has been a long-time sponsor, Wallis said."We're delighted that they have taken on this commitment for us" as title sponsor, she said.Maggie FitzRoy can also be reached at (904) 249-4947, ext. 6320.

Sure, you need a bike to complete a triathlon. And yes, it may be better if your bike was actually built for racing (though you wouldn't be the first to compete on a hybrid if you went that route). But you don't need to plunk down $5,000 on a carbon-fiber tri bike for your first season out.

"I did my first triathlon with a borrowed bike from my friend's garage," says Cami Stock, a coach for Wild Blue Racing in Colorado Springs. "Some people have done races on mountain bikes and that's OK."

Intent on owning a set of wheels? Find your bike for less by talking to the folks at your local tri or cycling shop about anyone who may be selling a used one. Or check out sites like Craigslist or ebay for a bike that may fit the bill. Another option: Looking into a peer-to-peer program like Spinlister, where you can find and rent race-ready bikes in more than 40 countries from anywhere from $20 to $100 daily.
